SpaceCraft

SpaceCraft: Usually this would bring to mind lunar vehicles and space shuttles, but in this case try warm, soft, winter hats. That’s right, hats.
How did SpaceCraft begin? Legend has it that founder Stefan Hoffmann photographed a snow cat at the bottom of a back country run, which he then transformed into a label to be used on his artwork and the beanies we feature at Play Outdoors. After traveling extensively in Asia, he met Sarah O’Brien, a student of art, culture, and language, who had spent many winters in Asia and Central America. They dreamed of creating a business that would allow them to spend winters in the snowy Cascades and the rest of the year in Asia creating their beanies, traveling and surfing—this dream became SpaceCraft.
Over the years Stefan and Sarah have established co-op working relationships with small Asian vendors by paying fair wages and financing their own growth. While some hats are knit by robots, many are hand-knit at home by families in the mountains of Bali—truly idyllic working conditions.
That’s why we’re proud to feature top quality, acrylic knit hats like the adorable
Buddha Bear for the tiny ones, the
Force Field with ear flaps for older girls, and the
Linus and
Eskimo pom-style beanies. Looking for a brim to keep the sun at bay? Then you’ll love their classic
Brim beanie too.
