Our Philosophy
When kids are running around outside with the wind in their hair, cheeks the color of berries and laughing from deep inside their soul, there is no question that this is how kids are supposed to live. There’s just no substitute for fresh air.
There is also no substitute for quality information, earth- conscious choices, sincere caring, and products that perform well.
Our product selection guidelines:
- We are an ecologically- and socially-conscious business and seek out manufacturers and service partners who are like-minded.
- Products we represent must first exceed expectations for durability, fit, and performance.
- Products are manufactured and handled with sustainability in mind.
- Products must be real-kid tested.
Founding partners Sarah Laufer and Justin Rae are parents, outdoor sports professionals, and business-minded entrepreneurs. They found their inspiration for Play Outdoors right in their backyard- which happens to be the Deschutes National Forest in Bend, Oregon. Bend is a Mecca of outdoor enthusiasts, beautiful places and active families. Justin and Sarah moved to Bend to raise their family because they wanted their children to have every opportunity to make a connection with nature and the outdoors. From learning to ski at Mt Bachelor and canoeing in the Cascade Lakes to cycling through the foothills of the Three Sisters, Justin and Sarah live in the best place to test the gear and clothing they sell. In creating Play Outdoors, they hope to pass on their inspiration to your family.
